4 Be Thou, O God, exalted high,

And as thy Glory fills the Sky ;
So let it be on Earth display'd,
'Till Thou art here as there obey'd.

PSA L M CVIII. Metre iii.

Y Heart, blest Saviour, is resign’d,

And fix'd to ev'ry Point enjoin'd By thy divine Decree; I'll praise Thee with my Lips, the best Of all my Members, for they're bleft

In magnifying Thee. 2 Awake, and be thy Strains renew'd, Thou Glory of my Gratitude,

Awake, my Harp, and play, Awake, my Lute, -myself thall rise, As foon as these uplifted Eyes

Can catch a Glance of Day. 3 O LORD, with thankful Voice and Hand, Among the Natives of the Land,

Thy Mercies I'll proclaim ; To Strangers I will fing thy Worth, And make my Progress through the Earth,

To magnify thy Name. 4 Lo! to the Clouds thy Truth extends ; Thy Mercy Heav'n's vast Height transcends,

From whence thy Glories flow : Shinc forth, O God, with cloudless Ray, And wondrous Acts of Grace display

Throughout the World below.

my Praise,

5 The Juft, bleft Objects of thy Love,
Defend propitious from above,

And hear thy Suppliant's Voice:
Since Thou hast sworn in Holiness,
I'll plead thy Promise, trust thy Grace,
And evermore rejoice.

NOD of my Mercy and

Though Sinners speak against thy Grace

With a blaspheming Tongue.
2 When in the Form of mortal Man

Thy Son on Earth was found,
With cruel Slanders, false and vain,

They compass'd Him around.
3 Their Mis’ries his Compassion move,

Their Peace He still pursu'd ;
They render Hatred for his Love,

And Evil for his Good.
Their Malice rag'd without a Cause;

Yet, with his dying Breath,
He pray'd for Murd'rers on bis Cross,

And bless'd his Foes in Death.
5 LORD, shall thy bright Example shine

In vain before my Eyes ?
Give me a Soul akin to Thine,

To love mine Enemies.
6 The LORD shall on

And in my Saviour's Name
I shall defeat their Pride and Rage,
Who slander and condemn.

[ocr errors]

In Zion shall thy Pow'r be knowl},

And make thy Foes submit.
2 What Wonder shall thy Gospel do!

Thy. Converts shall surpass
The num'rous Drops of Morning-Dew,

And own thy sov?reign Grace.
3 God hath pronounc'd a firm Decree,

Nor changes what He swore ;
“ Eternal shall thy Priesthood be,

« When Aaron is no more.
Melchifedec, that wondrous Priest,

“ That King of high Degree,
“ That holy Man who Abr' ham blest,

“ Was but a Type of Thee." 5 Jesus our PRIEST for ever lives

To plead for us above;
Jesus our KING for ever gives

The Bleslings of his Love.
6 God shall exalt his glorious Head,

And his high Throne maintain ;
Shall strike the Pow'rs and Princes dead,
Who dare oppose his Reign.

2 « From Zion fhall thy Word proceed ;
.« Thy Word, the-Sceptre in thy Hand,
" Shall make the Hearts of Rebels bleed,

“ And-bow their Wils-do-thy Command. 3." That Day''fhall fhew thy Pow'r is great,

"When Saints shall flock with willing Minds,
“ And Sinners crowd thy Temple-Gate,

“ Where Holiness in Beauty fhines.”
40 blessed Pow'r ! O glorious Day!
What a large Viet’ry thall ensue!
And Converts who thy Grace obey
Exceed the Drops of Morning-Dew.

5 THUS the great LORD of Earth and Sea

Spake to his Son, and thus He swore;
“ Eternal shall thy Priesthood be,

«'And change from' Hand to Hand no more. 6 « Aaron and all his Sons must die,

«. But everlasting Life is Thine,
« To save for ever those that fiy
“For Refuge from the Wrath divine.
7 < By Me Melchisedec was made,

“ On Earth: a King and Priest at once;
“And Thou my heav'nly PRIEST shalt plead;

“And Thou, my KING, shalt rule my Sons. 8 Jesus the Priest afcends his Throne,

While Counsels of eternal Peace,
Between the FATHER and the SON,
Proceed with Honour and Success.

9 Through the whole Earth his Reign shall

And crush the Pow'rs that dare rebel:[{pread,
Then shall He judge the rising Dead,

And send the guilty World to Hell. 10 Though while He treads his glorious Way,

He drinks the Cup of Tears and Blood,
The Suff'rings of that dreadful Day
Shall but advance Him near to God.

PSALM CX. Metre iii. ITHE LORD unto my LORD, thus fpake,

Till I thy Foes thy Foot-Stool make, Sit Thou in State at my Right-Hand Supreme in Sion Thou shalt be, And all thy proud Opposers see

Subjected to thy just Command. 2 Thee, in thy Pow'r's triumphant Day, The willing Nations shall obey,

And when thy rising Beams they view, Shall all (redeem'd from Error's Night) Appear as numberless and bright

As Crystal Drops of Morning-Dew. 3 The Lord hath sworn, nor sworn in vain, That, like Melchisedec's, thy Reign

And Priesthood shall no Period know;
No proud Competitor shall fit
At thy Right-Hand-but Pow'rs submit,
And Thrones before thy Foot-Stool bow.

P S A L M CXI. Metre i,

To my Almighty God;
