[ocr errors]

ORD, thou haft call'd thy Grace to mind, Thou haft revers'd our heavy Doom; So GOD forgave when Ifrael finn'd,

And brought his wand'ring Captives home.

2 Thou haft begun to fet us free,

And made thy fierceft Wrath abate ;
Now let our Hearts be turn'd to Thee,
And thy Salvation be complete.

3 Revive our dying Graces, LORD,
And let thy Saints in Thee rejoice;
Make known thy Truth, fulfil thy Word;
We wait for Praise to tune our Voice

4 We wait to hear what God will fay:
He'll speak, and give his People Peace:
But let them run no more aftray,
Left his returning Wrath increase.

PSALM LXXXVII.

OD in his earthly Temple lays Foundations for his heav'nly Praife: He likes the Tents of Jacob well,

But ftill in Zion loves to dwell.

2 His Mercy vifits ev'ry House,

That pay their Night and Morning Vows;
But makes a more delightful Stay
Where Churches meet to praife and pray.

3 What Glories were defcrib'd of old!
What Wonders are of Zion told!
Thou City of our God below,
Thy Fame fhall Tyre and Egypt know.

[ocr errors]

4 Egypt and Tyre, and Greek and Jew,
Shall there begin their Lives anew:
Angels and Men fhall join to fing...
The Hill where living Waters fpring.

5 When God makes up his laft Account
Of Natives in his holy Mount,

'Twill be an Honour to appear
As one new-born or nourish'd there.

PSALM. LXXXVIII.

IM To Thee I pour my Cries;
Μ

Y SAVIOUR GOD, by Night, by Day,

Let my fad Plaints, while thus I pray,
Before thy Throne arife.

2 Low in the Depth's unfathom'd Night,
Thou throw'ft my trembling Soul
On me thine awful Judgments light,
And all thy Tempests roll.

3 No friendly Feet approach me nigh;
Abhor'd as one that's dead,

To Thee (who only hear'ft my cry)

My fuppliant Hands I fpread. ¿

4 O fay, fhall mightiest Acts be fhown

Where Death triumphant reigns?

The Dead, to make thy Wonders known,
Burft their fepulchral Chains?

5 Shall Love, like thine, and Truth appear
Where Darknefs all Things hides?
Thy Righteoufnefs be publish'd where!
Forgetfulness prefides ?

6 Like breaking Seas, with mighty Force
Thy Terrors bear me down;
And, with a vaft united Course,
My ev'ry Comfort drown.

PSALM LXXXIX. Metre i.

M The Mercies of the LORD;

Y never-ceafing Songs fhall fhow

And make fucceeding Ages know
How faithful is his Word.

2 The facred Truths his Lips pronounce
Shall firm as Heav'n endure;
And if He fpeaks a Promise once,
Th' eternal Grace is fure.

3 How long the Race of David held
The promis'd Jewish Throne !
But there's a nobler Cov'nant feal'd
To David's greater SON.

4 His Seed for ever fhall poffefs

A Throne above the Skies;

The meaneft Subject of his Grace
Shall to that Glory rife.

5 LORD, GOD of Hofts, thy wondrous Ways Are fung by Saints above;

And Saints on Earth their Honours raise To thy unchanging Love.

PART H.
