5 Shall they escape without thy Frown?
Muft their Devices ftand?
O caft the haughty Sinner down,
And let him know thy Hand.

PART II.

6 GOD counts the Sorrows of his Saints,
Their Groans affect his Ears ;-
THOU haft a Book for my Complaints,
A Battle for my Tears.

7 When to thy Throne I raife my Cry,
The Wicked fear and flee ;

So fwift is Pray'r to reach the Sky,
So near is GOD to me.

8 In Thee, moft Holy, Juft, and True,
I have repos'd my

Trust;

Nor will I fear what Man can do,
The Offspring of the Duft.

9 Thy folemn Vows are on me, LORD,
Thou shalt receive my Praife;

I'll fing, "How faithful is thy Word! "How righteous all thy Ways!"

10 Thou haft fecur'd my Soul from Death; O fet thy Pris'ner free:

That Heart and Hand, and Life and Breath,
May be employ'd for Thee.

PSALM LVII.

MY GOD, in whom are all the Springs

Of boundless Love and Grace un

known;

Hide me beneath thy fpreading Wings,
Till the dark Cloud is overblown.

2 Up to the Heav'ns I fend my Cry,
The LORD will my Defires perform;
He fends his Angel from the Sky,
And faves me from the threat'ning Storm.
3 Be Thou exalted, O my GoD,

Above the Heav'ns where Angels dwell!
Thy Pow'r on Earth be known abroad,
And Land to Land thy Wonders tell.

4 My Heart is fix'd; my Song shall raise
Immortal Honours to thy Name;
Awake, my Tongue, to found his Praife!
My Tongue, the Glory of my Frame !

5 High o'er the Earth his Mercy reigns,
And reaches to the utmost Sky;

His Truth to endless Years remains,
When lower Worlds diffolve and die.

6 Be Thou exalted, O my GoD,

I

Above the Heav'ns where Angels dwell!
Thy Pow'r on Earth be known abroad,
And Land to Land thy Wonders tell.

PSALM LVIII.

UDGES, who rule the World by Laws,
Will ye defpife the righteous Cause,.
When th' injur'd Poor before you ftands?
Dare ye condemn the righteous Poor,
And let rich Sinners 'fcape fecure, [Hands?
While Gold and Greatness bribe your

2 Have ye forgot, or never knew,
That God will judge the Judges too?
High in the Heav'ns his Juftice reigns;

Yet you invade the Rights of God,
And fend your bold Decrees abroad,

To bind the Confcience in your Chains.

3 Th' ALMIGHTY thunders from the Sky!
Their Grandeur melts, their Titles die,
As Hills of Snow diffolve and run;
Or Snails that perish in their Slime,'
Or Births that come before their Time,
Vain Births that never fee the Sun.

4 Thus fhall the Vengeance of the LORD Safety and Joy to Saints afford; CA And All that hear ihall join and fay, "Sure there's a GOD that rules on high, "A GOD that hears his Children cry, "And will their Suff'rings well repay.

PSALM LIX.

SAVE O my

From my determin'd Foes;

In my Defence oppofe thy Pow'r
To theirs who me oppose.

2 On Thee I wait, 'tis on thy Strength
For Succour I depend:

'Tis Thou, O GOD, art my Defence, Who only canft defend.

3 Thy Mercy, LORD, which has fo oft.
From Danger fet me free,

Shall crown my Wifhes, and fubdue
My haughty Foes to me.

Thy wondrous Pow'r confefs;

- For Thou hast been my fure DEFENCE,
My REFUGE in Distress.

5 To Thee, with never-ceafing Praife,
O Gop, my Strength, I'll fing:

My Health and Safety (pring.

PSALM LX.

EPULS'D, difpers'd, chaftis'd by Thee,
O grant us, LORD, thy Face to fee;
And let the People, once thy Care,
Again thy fav'ring Prefence fhare.

2 How trembles this divided Land
Beneath the Terrors of thy Hand!
O THOU, the God whom we adore,
Its Breaches heal, its Peace restore.

3 Thy just Decrees to Ifrael's Eyes
Have bid a Scene of Sorrow rife
And to his pallid Lips the Wine
Of dire Aftonishment confign.
4 Yet fee, thine Hands a Standard rear ;
Beneath it Each, who owns thy Fear,
(Engag'd in TRUTH's neglected Cause)
His Sword, fecure of Conqueft, draws.
5 Such, Objects of thy tend'reft Love,
Defend, propitious, from above;
Let Me with them thy Mercy share,
And hear, O hear my ceafelef's Pray'r!

HEN overwhelm'd with Grief,
My Heart within me dies;

Helpless and far from all Relief,
To Heav'n I lift mine Eyes.

2 O lead me to the Rock
That's high above my Head;
And make the Covert of thy Wings
My Shelter and my Shade.

Within thy Prefence, LORD,
For ever I'll abide ;'

Thou art the Tow'R of my Defence,
The REFUGE where I hide.

Thou giveft me the Lot

Of those that fear thy Name; If endless Life be their Reward,

I fhall poffefs the fame.

PSALM LXI. Metre ii.

PPRESS'D with Grief, in Exile loft,
TO THEE, from Ifrael's utmost Coast,

My Voice, eternal GoD, I fend;
O hear my Plaint; my Pray'r attend.
2 High on the Rock my Fortress rear,
There let me ftand unmov'd, and hear
The Storms (that now around me beat)
At Distance roll beneath my Feet.

3 Thee, LORD, I feek, whene'er my Foes
With dire Intent my Path inclofe;

And own Thee, in the dang'rous Hour, My steadfast HOPE, my strongest Tow'R. 7
